CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – The Cedar Rapids River Kings have announced the signing of standout running back Michael Dyer for the 2020 IFL season.Dyer brings championship flash to the River Kings' 8th-ranked rushing attack. In his first year at Auburn, Dyer broke the legendary Bo Jackson's record for most rushing yards by a true freshman. As a sophomore in 2011, Dyer was named to both the Associated Press' All-SEC First Team and the Coaches' All-SEC first team. He helped lead the Tigers to a national championship that year, averaging 103.5 yards a game on more than five yards per carry. He capped the season by winning the Offensive Player of the Game in the 2011 BCS National Championship game, ahead of teammate (and soon to be #1 overall NFL draft pick) Cam Newton.
After transferring from Auburn in 2012, Dyer attended Arkansas State and Arkansas Baptist College, where he earned an associate's degree, before transferring to Louisville. After battling through injuries at Louisville, Dyer was invited to camp with the NFL's Oakland Raiders and the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. In 2017 he signed with the Texas Revolution in the Champions Indoor Football League (CIF), where he immediately clicked with Head Coach Victor Mann and his #TeamNoSoft philosophy. The partnership led to Rookie of the Year honors for Dyer and a CIF championship for the Revolution.
"He's a talented player and a hard worker," says Mann, who is getting set to lead his first campaign as the River Kings' head coach. "He's a perfect fit for what we're trying to build in Cedar Rapids." At 5'9" and 220 lbs., Dyer is the kind of punishing runner who can dominate indoor defenses. "We're expecting great things."
